The Truth About Seku

After being diagnosed with a life threatening illness, beginning divorce proceedings and losing a home to foreclosure - all in the same year, Dr. Seku Gathers was at a crossroads. Up to that point in life, he had been the model son and student - living, what some would call, the American dream.

Bootstrapped himself from humble beginning in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, excelled in college and ultimately trained at some of the most prestigious institutions in America to become a Medical Doctor. But now all that was gone. With Hepatitis C ravaging his body, a contentious divorce looming and living off a $2000 monthly disability check, some would say he lost everything. The Truth was, for the first time in his life, he chose himself - not what his parents wanted, not what is soon to be ex-wife wanted, not what society wanted. The majority of his decisions up to that point (age 32) had been based on pleasing some-one or some-thing else - never taking into account what he thought was important.

That was the Truth. It in that moment he discovered The Truth Prescription. How ignoring facts can be dangerous and lead folks down a path of doing things and living lives that are not their own. Dr. Gathers had lived life for others - now was his chance to live based on his natural gifts, talents and inclinations. In the years following his illness and divorce, he began to heal and reconnected with talents and passion that were once suppressed. Dr. Gathers attended the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York City and went on to write, direct and produce, several films which have played in film festivals all over the country.

In alignment with his love of creativity, Dr. Gathers has been a successful entrepreneur starting several medical and non-medical businesses. His message of Truth is central to who he is and the podcast is a platform to teach listeners how to shatter the chains of emotional and psychological imprisonment. The Truth prescription is about using Truth as a guide to navigate the world and craft the life you want for yourself, from the inside and not from the outside. Dr. Gathers is a father to three girls and lives with his beautiful wife in Northern New Jersey.
